{Ian's Lunch}

May 13, 2010
This afternoon, I put Ian in his "Little Chair" to eat his spinach & cheese raviolies, and I thought "Hey, I wonder what he'd do with a fork?" So just for fun I gave him his own fork and this is what he did with it! (click on the video below to make it start playing)

Ian's so much fun to be with! He is such a sweet, funny little baby, and each day he's learning and doing so many new things so much faster than I remember the other kids doing them. I don't know how I can possibly keep up with him...but I'll try to slow us down so we can savor these little moments.

{National Junior Honor Society}

May 4, 2010
Because of her OUTSTANDING grades and AMAZING personality Paige was nominated by her teachers for the "National Jr. Honor Society", and her induction ceremony was tonight. After much fussing about what to wear and how to fix her hair, she was finally ready to the dress Mom picked and the hair Mom curled...because some events are so important that Mom gets to exercise her full veto power! So I said "NO" to the pants and ponytail. But that's okay, because she wasn't the only one in a dress or the only one with fancy hair as she so gloomily predicted. (I guess lots of other Moms used their veto power tonight too.)
At the end of the evening I got this great picture of her with her certificate, and then I took her to Cold Stone for a little celebratory ice-cream. We weren't the only ones celebrating, it seemed like everyone from the ceremony had the same idea. We stood in line for 25 minutes, but it really didn't feel like that long because we had good friends to chat with while we were waiting. Lane and I are both so proud of Paige, not only for having the good grades to qualify for Honor Society, but also for being the kind of young woman that her teachers would recommend!

{Bubble Baths and Lots of Laughs!}

April 29, 2010

Jarom LOVES having Ian in the bath with him...especially if it's a bubble bath. As you can see Jarom covers his chin with a bubble beard and then makes crazy faces at Ian while he Ho Ho Ho's like Santa Clause! Ian thinks this is the funniest thing he's ever seen and laughs so hard. Then Ian tries to wipe the bubbles off Jarom's face, but Jarom doesn't mind...he just puts more on and starts the whole routine all over again. They play like this until the water gets cold, and Ian always cries when it's time to get out. Having a brother looks like so much fun, I'm really glad they have each other.

April 4, 2010

The Easter Bunny usually comes to our house while we're at Church, but this year we have Sacrament Meeting at 11:00, so he came while we were sleeping last night. He's such a rascal, he always hides the kid's baskets...but I don't think they mind! However,this year the Easter Bunny stacked the goodies WAY too high in their baskets, and when Paige picked hers up her glass piggy bank slid off and broke all over the kitchen floor. She was so sad, then mommy told her she could go to the store and pick out any piggy bank she wanted......but after she saw the "Twilight" t-shirt she forgot about everything else! Jarom was really excited to break open his plastic eggs so he could start eating his candy, at first Ian loved playing with the little chocolate eggs and jellybeans. He'd put them in his basket and then take them out again, but once Ian realized that those little balls had CANDY in them he only wanted to put them in his mouth! (click on this video to see him playing with his candy)He loves his little green frog, if you hold it in the palm of your hand the frog makes a 'ribbiting' sound. I think every one's favorite thing was the big chocolate bunny, even if it was hollow.
I'm so glad my kids have their priorities straight, even though they're always super excited to be getting new stuff and lots of candy...who wouldn't be?...they understand that the real reason we celebrate Easter is because of the Resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I'm so very thankful that as it became time to get ready for Church this morning, our kids happily put their new things to the side, cleaned up their candy and all that ridiculous Easter grass, and then they started getting dressed without any complaints. They are amazing!

{Coloring Easter Eggs}

April 3, 2010
Today after Jarom's soccer game, we all met over at Grandma and Grandpa Gladden's house to color our Easter Eggs. John and Sandy always set up their old ping-pong table in the back yard and fill up about 50 cups of dye for the kids. Since they each have their own carton of boiled eggs, we just set 'em loose and stand back! Sandy always tries to buy some fun extra's for the kids to decorate with, this year it was some stencils and a glitter mix to sparkle-ize their eggs with. Lane ended up holding Ian, but he wasn't content to just watch dad play with the colored water...oh no...Ian wanted to get his hands in there and help too. He absolutely LOVED coloring the eggs, the problem was that he doesn't know the difference between an egg and a ball yet! His favorite thing to do with the eggs? Throw them of course. But we didn't care, he had so much fun playing with them and Jarom had so much fun eating them! Each Easter I find myself holding my breath and wondering if this will be the year that dying and hiding the eggs becomes 'stupid' and 'dumb'. I hope it never does, I hope the girls can always find the joy in making something that was once plain and white, sparkley and colorful. I hope the challenge of finding the last lost egg, the one nobody remembers hiding, never gets old. It was a great day, and everyone had so much fun, I guess I can breathe easy for at least one more year.

{Spring Break in Albuquerque}

March 20th - 24th, 2010

Our vacation started off Saturday morning when we went to the Children's Science Museum in Albuquerque before checking in to our hotel room. Everyone had a great time, but it was especially fun watching Ian discover everything for the first time. Jarom had a blast building a tall tube tower out of PVC pipes. Ian loved playing with the balls in the kiddy area, and watching the balls on the ball machine, no big surprise there and Paige and Maddi liked hanging out in the hall of mirrors....just like the typical pre-teen girls that they are! Sunday morning we got up early and went to church at one of the Albuquerque Wards, then we drove over to see the Temple. It was freezing, but everyone was such a good sport, letting me get a few quick pictures before jumping back into the warm van. The fountain even cooperated by staying on just long enough for me to snap a couple of pictures before it turned off! It was so great having Deanne, Ned, Nick, Izzy, & Cadan in Albuquerque with us. Our kids had so much fun running around the hotel and swimming together. Monday we went to the Albuquerque Zoo with Deanne, Izzy and Cadan. We watched as the Polar Bears nudged and carried a huge white block to the top of their enclosement and then threw it over the edge, only to go back down and start pushing it up again! It was amazing. Ian loved being outside and seeing all the animals, but the peacocks were his favorites.
Tuesday we decided to find a Putt-Putt Golf place and Arcade. Maddi and Paige both won big on Deal or No Deal, but Jarom actually had the 200 ticket case, unfortunately he decided to make a deal
and only got 125 tickets.

After that we went to the mall so the kids could spend their allowances and then it was off to see a movie. The girls and Lane saw "New Moon" while Jarom and I went to see "Alvin and the Chipmunks, the Squeakuel" with Deanne, Cadan and Izzy. In an amazing coincidence, John and Sandy were staying at our hotel too. John had a dr.'s appointment and they came down a day early to relax a little. So on Wednesday before heading home we went to the Aquarium with John and Sandy. The kids love spending time with their grandparents and this kind of one on one thing doesn't happen very often, making it all that much more special. This was one of the best Albuquerque trips we've ever had, if only I hadn't had a killer sore throat that caused me to spend half of the day at Urgent Care....but then again, it wouldn't be a family vacation if something unexpected didn't happen!

~Ian's First Birthday~

Ian's first Birthday was so much fun!
Everyone came to wish him happy birthday, and to give him presents. No big surprise, he got LOTS of balls, his favorite toy! We decorated the house in a sports ball theme and got a cake to match. After a few pictures we gave Ian his cake and waited for him to dive in, but he was a little hesitant and needed a nudge from daddy. (click on the video below to see him eating his cake!)Ian was sooooo tired and could barely stay awake....until the sugar rush hit and then he really started having fun! He loved the helium balloons and the horns that everyone kept blowing, Ian's first birthday was just perfect.

~Jarom's 6th Birthday~

February 5th and 6th, 2010

Jarom wanted a Nintendo DS for Christmas and so we made him the same deal that we made the girls last year, a DS in exchange for the expense of a Birthday Party. So nothing fancy this year, just family, presents and a home-made cake, and that was fine with him.... as you can see in the pictures he had a great birthday! He opened the presents from us on Friday evening and then we took him to the restaurant of his choice....Golden Corral, where he took a bite of sausage especially for Grandma Beardslee 'cause she told him to! Jarom loves helping me in the kitchen, so making his birthday cake was an extra special experience.
We took the cake over to Grandma and Grandpa Gladden's to eat with the family after Saturday lunch, and then we took all the cousins to McDonald's to play on the play land and eat ice cream. (Unfortunately, the ice cream machine was broken) Jarom opened his presents from the cousins at McDonald's, and had a surprise visit from Brad and Tanner Dudney (our neighbors) plus a little girl named Ireland from his class just happened to be there too. He loves the skateboard Grandma Beardslee gave him, and the DS game 'Drawn to Life' from us, and he can't wait to go to the store and spend all the birthday money he collected! I can't believe he's growing up so fast, already 6, and such an amazingly good boy too. How did we get so lucky? I love this kid so much!

Here's a little video of him learning how to skateboard, just click on the video below to make it play!

~Snow Day~

The fun in the snow continues...after getting back from our weekend in Durango, a storm moved in and dumped a ton of snow on Farmington. The neighborhood kids all ended up in our back yard packing snow around the trampoline to make the most awsome snow fort I've ever seen! It took them a few DAYS, but eventually they were able to surround the entire trampoline. What a fun project. Way to go guys! Now if only they could put that much determination into cleaning their rooms.....

~Weekend in Durango~

We were given a very unique Christmas gift from one of Lane's Seminary students, a weekend at their condo in Durango. The condo isn't really in Durango at all, it's across from Purgatory Ski Resort, so the snow was amazing and the views were spectacular. We drove up on Friday after school and spent all day Saturday sledding before coming home exhausted Saturday night. I wasn't sure how Ian would do out in the cold for so long, but he loved it. Of course he looked at me like I was crazy when I started to put on his second and third hello mom, I'm already dressed, what are you doing??? I got tons of great pictures and videos, and Paige mastered the fine art of shoe skiing all in all everyone had a blast!
